7-Stars Mushroom Farm: An Engaging and Educational Mushroom Tour

Abstract An educational and enjoyable mushroom tour to 7-Stars Mushroom Sdn. Bhd. was organized by the Malaysian Nature Society Selangor Branch Mycology Special Interest Group (MNSSB Mycology SIG) on the 23rd of February 2025. A total of 33 participants, including individuals and families from diverse backgrounds but shared a common passion for fungi, signed up for the tour. They explored the mushroom cultivation cold storage, guided by knowledgeable staff who had explained the intricate growing processes. Participants also enjoyed the fun and hands-on activities, including picking own mushrooms, and enjoy tastings of freshly prepared mushroom dishes, showcasing the unique flavors and textures of the farm's produce.


Introduction

The MNSSB Mycology Group had organized an educational and enjoyable mushroom tour at 7-Stars Mushroom Sdn. Bhd. on the 23rd of February 2025. The farm specializes in cultivating organic mushrooms such as shiitake, oyster, and lion's mane, using advanced tissue culture techniques and controlled green room environments to ensure premium quality and sustainability.

Participants were able to explore the mushroom cultivation cold storage, guided by knowledgeable staff who will explain the intricate growing processes. They also engaged in hands-on activities, including picking their own mushrooms, and enjoy tastings of freshly prepared mushroom dishes, showcasing the unique flavors and textures of the farm's produce.

The tour accommodated 33 participants, including individuals and families from diverse backgrounds but shared a common passion for fungi. This tour offers an insight into sustainable farming practices and the benefits of organic agriculture, making it an enriching experience for all ages.

Tour Itinerary

The tour began with participants receiving a brief presentation on the establishment of the farm business, the challenges faced, and advancements in mushroom cultivation technology. Some freshly picked mushrooms were displayed during the briefing, allowing participants to touch and feel them, as well as take photographs with them.

The tour proceeds with participants exploring the bagging and sterilization process of mushrooms, followed by the inoculation and cultivation stages in the cold rooms for Lion’s Mane and Oyster mushrooms. The fun and enjoyable activity of picking their own mushrooms took place in the cold room for Shiitake mushrooms.

The tour wrapped up with participants savoring tastings of freshly prepared mushroom dishes, showcasing the distinct flavors and textures of the farm's produce. Additionally, families with children had a fun activity where they could decorate mushroom blocks using their own creativity.

 The mushroom tour provides a unique experience for participants as they explore the cold storage used for mushroom cultivation, guided by knowledgeable staff.
